Aamir Ashfaq’s Childhood Passion: Collecting Model and Toy Cars
Today we bring you an interesting story of a man’s hobby, no scratch that, his passion! Right here in our very own city of Lahore, Pakistan, Aamir Ashfaq has been collecting toy and model cars for the past 32 years and has managed to amass a collection of over 5000 cars.
Read on after the gallery for more information about his toy car collection.
Aamir Ashfaq’s Toy Car Collection
Aamir starting collecting when he was just 8 years old. Often time when people grow up they loose sight of their passions or get over them attributing them to a fad but not in Aamir’s case. He stayed true to his childhood passion and persevered with limited resources and the non availability or very limited variety of die-cast cars in the Pakistani market.
He’s not sure why but Aamir states that he is really attracted to cars and feels extremely happy when he’s in his toy-car ‘showroom’ where these rolling masterpieces are ‘orderly parked’. He says that many would find it odd or childish for a grown man to maintain such a collection, but not him or his family. Ever since he was young, toys always had a special place in his heart. He really liked trains and airplanes too and his parents tried to get him more interested in them but, he always came back to his first passion – cars.
Even though he hasn’t earned a world record its still an amazing feat for any Pakistani. His toy car collection includes luxury, antique, classic, vintage, sports, muscle, Formula 1, NASCAR, movie and TVs cars from Knight Rider, Back to the Future, Gone in 60 Seconds, The Italian Job, the Fast & Furious series and cars that James Bond, Mr. Bean, Michael Knight and Batman would love to drive!
As time goes by certain memories fade away and people completely forget them, however Amir says that each time he picks up a car from his collection he is taken back to a fond memory from the past. He remembers playing and acting out various car chase sequences, and copying car scenes from Hollywood movies and TV series like Knight Rider and CHiPs.
This toy car collection of over 5000 cars includes brands like Matchbox, Hot Wheels, Majorette, Corgi, Johnny Lightening, Burago, Tomica, Jada Toys, Real Toy, Norev, Maisto, Welly, Siku and Kinsmart.
One of Aamir’s favourite cars is the 1982 Pontiac Trans Am, which appeared in the TV series Knight Rider. The car was used as K.I.T.T. (Knight Industries Two Thousand) in the series. Aamir maintains a balanced life spending time with his family and maintaining his collection which his daughters help him do.
Aamir attributes his successful collection to his parents who were very supportive and never interfered or objected. You can read Aamir’s story in his own words right here. Be sure to share and comment below.
We thank Aamir for sharing his extensive collection with us and wish him and his family all the best for the future.
