Director Kaleem Rajput’s upcoming serial (title still to be announced) is the source of tremendous anticipation in television circles these days. The plays stars celebrated actors Agha Ali, Sajjal Ali and Yumna Zaidi, all of whom are said to have done well in the serial, but it is the performance of newcomer Furqan Shafi that is generating the most buzz. The handsome Furqan plays a television anchor whose work introduces him to a life that had, heretofore, been unknown to him. While working, he discovers the contrasts between the rich and the poor, the privileged and the under-privileged, the noble and the immoral, and the well-educated and the illiterate. The character grows and evolves as he tries to unravel and understand the dichotomies in contemporary Pakistani society and take action. “I have worked in several plays in the past,” says Furqan, “but this one afforded me the greatest opportunity to prove myself as an actor.  I was surrounded by great actors like Agha, Sajjal and Yumna, whose positive influence helped me turn in a skilled performance. I truly hope that viewers will like me in the serial.” Furqan made his mark in acting with Zindagi Hath Barha (زندگی ہاتھ بڑہا), Sannata (سنّاٹا) and Rishtay (رِشتے), and feels that the upcoming serial will establish him as a competent actor in Pakistan.
