In most parts of the world including Pakistan Mother’s Day is annually celebrated on the second Sunday in May. Mother’s Day recognizes mothers, motherhood and maternal bonds in general, along with positive contributions that they make to society.
Historically Mother’s Day originated from two women, Julia Ward Howe and Anna Jarvis. Julia Ward sponsored Mother’s Day each year in Boston around 1870 to promote pacifism and disarmament with women. This lasted about 10 years. Anna Jarvis organized the first Mother’s Day in Grafton, West Virginia in 1908 (some say 1910). In 1914 Woodrow Wilson signed the proclamation creating Mother’s Day, the second Sunday in May, as a national holiday to honor mothers.
