Celebrating Thirty Years in the Arts: Nomad Art Gallery

By Ally Adnan.

2014 marks 30 years in the world of arts for Islamabad’s Nomad Art Gallery. The gallery opened its doors in 1984 and is today one of the most venerated art galleries in South Asia. Founder and director, Nageen Hyat celebrated the gallery’s thirtieth birthday by mounting an exhibition of modern calligraphic works by the two of Pakistan’s most promising artists, Shahzad Zar and Mian Athar. The two (2) artists have reinvented the ancient art of Islamic calligraphy by merging classical with modern techniques, unusual media and rich color palettes; the highly personal works on display were unique, daring, vivid and inspired. Shaharyar Khan, Rebekah Wigemaile, Syed Najam Kazmi, Syed Hasnain, Riffat Khattak, and Penelope Kinch were among the guest who attended the opening of the exhibition.
