CEAD Jamshoro Faculty Exhibition (6th to 13th March 2015) – Unicorn Gallery

Unicorn Gallery is pleased to present on 06th March 2015 an exhibition of Centre of Excellence in Art and Design, Jamshoro, Faculty group show.

CEAD Faculty group show features new miniatures, prints, paintings, sculptures and sculptural installations by the faculty of Centre of Excellence in Art and Design Jamshoro. With new artworks by: Abdul Malik Channa, Amjad Ali Talpur, Fazal Ellahi Khan, Jam Depar, Kashif Shahzad, Manzoor Ali Solangi, Mohammad Ali Bhatti, M Hussain Chandio, Nizam Daheri, Nusrat Raza Mangi, Safdar Ali Qureshi, Shafique Ahmed Tunio, Zubair Ahmed Bhutto.

Opening time: 5 pm to 8 pm.

Abdul Malik Channa trained in fine arts and graduated with a BFA in 2000. He is a lecturer at CEAD, an illustrator and has taught drawing and painting at the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture as well as Sadequain Institute of Art. The artist has participated in a number of exhibitions and was artist in residence at Lahore International Residency” hosted by “Annemarie-Schimmel-Haus (German Cultural Centre Lahore) and VASL Artists Collective. The artist paints the landscape of Balochistan and Sindh as simplified abstract forms.

Amjad Ali Talpur trained in miniature from the National College of Arts, Lahore. He teaches and practices at Jamshoro Sindh and his grid miniatures explore themes of country, culture, history, mughal and Islamic identity. The artist is a leading name in miniature painting and has exhibited internationally. Amjad Ali Talpur’s miniatures have been auctioned internationally.

Fazal Ellahi Khan specialized in Graphic art and printmaking from the University of Balochistan, Quetta in 2002. He paints the people of Balochistan and through his work explores identity and culture in prints. The artist has shown in a number of group shows and is a reputable printmaker.

Jam Depar graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Sculpture) from National College of Arts, Lahore, Pakistan (1997) and is renowned for his terracotta and wooden figurative sculptures, as well as outdoor paintings. The artist has participated in a number of prominent group exhibitions as well as taught fine arts at various art institutes’ in Pakistan.

Kashif Shahzad has a Masters in Fine Arts from Punjab University where he specialized in painting in 2000 and a BFA from University of Sindh, Jamshoro in 1997. The artist paints translucent scenes of nature in oil paints and is a distinguished lecturer with focus on History of Modern Art, History of Islamic Art and Architecture and Drawing and Painting.

Manzoor Ali Solangi paints on Takhti (slat) which was used to teach children in school. For the artist this wooden board references education, society and class. By drawing miniatures on Takhti the artist highlights class divides, and the plight of the underprivileged in rural societies. His work has enjoyed immense popularity and received critical acclaim. The artist has an MA in Fine Arts (1996) from University of Sindh, Jamshoro.

Mohammad Ali Bhatti addresses issues of society and identity through his work. A figurative painter, the artist has a PhD in interdisciplinary Arts from the School of Interdisciplinary Arts, Ohio University, United States of America (1998) and an MFA (Master of Fine Arts) painting Major, and Printmaking, Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, United States of America (1991). He has participated in a number of group and solo exhibitions, taught art extensively as well as worked on a large number of art commission projects.

M Hussain Chandio is a realist painter. His paintings are an aerial view of people. The artist has an MFA and a BFA from University of Sindh Jamshoro. He has participated in a number of important group exhibitions and has several years of art teaching experience. M Hussain Chandio’s aerial view paintings are in major private collections. The artist’s approach and treatment of his subject is both unique and original.

Nizam Daheri is inspired by the work of old masters. Through his work the artist revisits art history reinterpreting artworks by some of the most influential painters of all times. The artist graduated with an MA Hons in Visual arts (2013) from the National College of Arts and has shown his work in a number of important exhibitions.

Nusrat Raza Mangi uses art as a means to draw attention to a number of social issues: through his sculptures the artist has commented on domestic violence, treatment of women, inequality, culture and extremism, addressing important through glazed terracotta, fiberglass and wooden sculptures.
Safdar Ali Qureshi graduated from the National College of Arts in 2005. Born in Larkana, Sindh, he is currently a visiting faculty member teaching miniature painting at the Centre of Excellence in Arts Design, MUET, Jamshoro. Safdar Ali Qureshi’s work involves a revival of traditional skills with the experimentation of contemporary viewpoints and technology.

Safdar Ali Qureshi graduated from the National College of Arts in 2005. Born in Larkana, Sindh, he is currently a visiting faculty member teaching miniature painting at the Centre of Excellence in Arts Design, MUET, Jamshoro. Safdar Ali Qureshi’s work involves a revival of traditional skills with the experimentation of contemporary viewpoints and technology. Safdar Ali Qureshi is has shown at the India Art Fair.

Shafique Ahmed Tunio artworks reference his childhood. Trained as a printmaker with a BFA from CEAD, MUET Jamshoro and participant of printmaker exchange program at Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture. Known for producing work in a variety of printmaking techniques including: Aquatint, Mezzotint Type, Line Etching, Open Bite, Soft G round, Dry Point, Photo etching, Photo Transfer, Mono printing, Wood Cut, Collagraph, Chine colle.

Zubair Ahmed Bhutto is concerned with the process of art making just as much as the treatment and subject. The artist works in nukta or dots in the media of qalam and ink on wasli, and these details are similar to pardakht technique in miniature paintings. He has participated significantly in a number of shows and his work has been featured prominently in reviews.
