About the Buksh Foundation
Buksh Foundation is an impact lead microfinance institution operating in Pakistan since 2009 working for the economic empowerment of micro entrepreneurs in peri-urban and rural communities of Pakistan. Its distinguishing feature is its keen focus on “impact investment” instead of a mere charity based approach. Buksh Foundation aspires to be an innovative player in the microfinance industry by bringing a focus on women, rural markets and impact investment for enhancing scale and efficiency. Their three tiered focus encompasses a vision to be cost effective, sustainable and scalable in providing services to the “un-banked” segment of Pakistan and creating a positive socio-economic change by financially helping the impoverished become active economic agents.
The Foundation initiated its first development project ‘Lighting a Million Lives’ [LAML] playing an imperative role in providing sustainable energy solutions to individuals in rural off-grid areas. LAML has demonstrated the ability to create great impact in a sustainable and turnkey project with immense socio-economic benefits towards multiple developmental initiatives including education, health, women enterprise, provision of energy, economic growth and better living conditions. The off grid electrification projects have allowed the team to train thousands of people by creating environmental consciousness amongst them- special focus on women. The community mobilization programs have positively changed the conditions of the community residing below the poverty line (earning less than 2$/day) impacting positively on their health, education, employment opportunity and environment.
